Hi CC,

Happy New Year!

Took a quick look - a very quiet, positional win - no glaring mistakes [by you]; the opening could've been played differently - 5. e4, could've led to either a Benoni or King's Indian Defense [KID], your opponent played a plan very common in the KID -- with the White system of g3 & Bg2 it's the KID Fianchetto variation, which is very much like a Catalan & White -- 8. e4 is normal as White wants the Knight on d4 after the pawn exhange -- I'm not a fan of early Queen exchanges -- but after the exchange [I would really need to study ithe positions] it appears that White is up a pawn 11. Nxe5 Re8!? 12. f4, could be one of the KID tricks [many times Black gets back is pawn or gets his 2 Bishops very active] - 11 Ne5!? Nfxe4 12 Nxe4!? (but simpler is 12 Nxf7 Kxf7 13 Nxe4 Nxe4 14 Bxe4 +/- and White is up a pawn (instead of Kf7...12 … Nxc3?! 13 Nxd8 Ne2+ 14 Kh1 Nxc1 (14 … Bf6 15 Rd1 Bg4 16 Nxb7 Nxc1 17 Raxc1 Nxb7 18 Bxb7 Rb8 19 Bd5+ Kg7 20 f3 Bf5 21 Be4 Bxe4 22 fxe4 (22 Rd7+ Kg8 23 fxe4 Rxb2 24 Rxc7 Rxa2 25 Rb1 Ra1 26 Rxa1 Bxa1 27 Rxa7 )) 15 Raxc1 Rb8 (15 … Bf6 16 Rcd1 Rb8 (16 … Bf5 17 Nxb7 Nxb7 18 Bxb7 Rb8 19 Bd5+ )) 16 b4 +-) and Blackis down material ) Nxe4 13 Nxg6 hxg6 [13 … Nxg3?! looks suspect 14 Ne7+ Kf8 15 fxg3 Kxe7 16 Bg5+ f6 17 Rae1+ Kf7 +/= or +/- as the f pawn is very weak] 14 Bxe4 Rd4 15 Re1 [White can't hold the pawn so develop] Rxc4 16 Bd5 Rc2 17 Re8+ Kh7 18 Bxf7 Bd4 19 Be3 Bxb2 20 Rd1 ) 15 … c6 16 Be3 )

So grabbing the pawn with 11. Nxe5 appears to be correct - Black's 9... Nc5 appears to be wrong
