You are right.4.f3 in the Nimzo is a straightforward attempt to seize control of e4. At the cost of delaying development, but trying to refute Black's plan: to play for control of the e4-square. Black's most common reply is 4...d5 5.a3 Bxc3+ 6.bxc3 c5 7.cxd5 Nxd5 8.dxc leading us here

Due to the lack of a greater number of high class games I can only rely on my own experiences against high class CC players and have to assess that this position is completely unclear and that we need many more games for a final assessment.
