Hi all,

I converted my move to 17...Nc8 has Black will really need to come up with something clever if 17...Nd7 18. a6! --of course,on move 18, against Nc8, I don't know how White will get the King to h1 (Kf1!?)...

Regards,

Dont

reposting quick response to Bro. Rick on this line:

17..Nd7
18.a6 Nb6 (Bro. Rick's move)
19.Rc1 bxa6
20.Nd1 Be5
21.Rxc6 (edge to white)

Looking at 18.a6 Nb6

I see 19.Rc1 bxa6 20.Bxa6 c5 21.Nb5 Qd8(?)22.Bxc5 loses (-0.90)

your line:
17.a5 Nd7 18.a6 bxa6 19.dxc6 Qxc6 20.Nd5 Qe6 21.Qb4 Rab8 22.Qxe7 Ne5

white looks strong after 22.Qxe7 Ne5 23.Bc5 followed by the Q exchange and then b4.

John,

I think you're right, White is for choice-- Black's defense is getting tougher, anyway, in your line after 21.Qb4 ...Black should get almost quality with 22...Ne5
17.a5 Nd7 18.a6 bxa6 19.dxc6 Qxc6 20.Nd5 Qe6 21.Qb4 Rab8 22.Qxe7 Ne5
23.Qxe6 fxe6 24.Nf4 Bxf3 25.Bxf3 Nxf3+ 26.Rxf3 e5 27.Rd7 exf4 28.Rxf4 Bxb2
29.Rxf8+ Rxf8 30.Rxa7 a5 31.Bd2 Bd4 32.Rxa5 Bxf2+

Regards,
DT

hi DonT:

your line:
18.a6 bxa6 19.dxc6 Qxc6 20.Nd5 Qe6 21.Qa3 Be5 22.Nxe7+ Kh8
23.f4 Bxe2 24.Kxe2 Bf6 25.f5 Qc4+ 26.Qd3 Qxd3+

I'm working on 21.Qb4 (protecting the e-pawn, allowing f4 if ..Be5)

((edited))

21.Qb4 Rfb8
22.Qxe7 Nf8
23.b4 Re8
24.Qxe6 Nxe6
25.Bxa6 Be5 (white wins a pawn)
26.f4

or

21.Qb4 Rab8
22.Qxe7 Nf6
23.Bc5 Nxd5
24.Qxe6 fxe6
25.Bxf8 (white wins the exchange)

Excuse me --Johnl did provide a continuation for Black involving the immediate 17...ba6; just different bit of analysis...

Okay John, it looks like my response to a6 did not make it to the thread... after I had posted my previous note (initially I only saw one post??) - after submitting I noticed all the other posts with the idea of 18. a6!

I then realized that no one provided anything on the immediate 18...ba6 - it looks tenable...
17.a5 Nd7 18.a6 bxa6 19.Qc4 c5 20.Qa2 Bxc3+ 21.bxc3 Qd6 22.Qxa6 Rfb8
23.Qxd6 exd6 24.Bf4 Rb6 25.Bd3
perhaps 19. Qc4 & 20.Qc2 are weak
or
18.a6 bxa6 19.dxc6 Qxc6 20.Nd5 Qe6 21.Qa3 Be5 22.Nxe7+ Kh8
23.f4 Bxe2 24.Kxe2 Bf6 25.f5 Qc4+ 26.Qd3 Qxd3+

I'm thinking that adding a check box to cc oneself might be good for the forum.

Regards,

Don

hi DonT:

what do you have for ..Nd7 18.a6, as posted above in this thread? 18.a6 involves long term strategy, so it may not be played, or the possible win for white may not be obvious for a long time.

This is what I'd posted for ..Nc8:

17.a5 Nc8 followed by ..Nd6 as gmueller suggests may be much better.

gmueller wrote:

What about 17...Nc8 if 18.Kh1 then Nd6 19. a6 c5

20.Bf4 Rab8 21.Qc2 bxa6 22.Na4 f5 23.e5 Nf7 24.d6 exd6 25.exd6 Qc6 26.d7 Rb7 27.Kg1

----------------

I have a ..Nc8 line that holds. ..Nc8 ..Nd6 makes the N more active, while ..bxa6 opens up the b-file for the R.

Hi,
I thought that Nc8 was too defensive...Perhaps, by including a game score or attacking theme(s) - you would convince the less knowledgable - I chose Nbd7 based on: 17...Nd7 18.dxc6 bxc6 19.Qa3 Rfe8 20.Kf1 Rab8 21.b4 Kh8 22.a6 Be5 23.f4 Bxe2+ 24.Nxe2 Bd6 25.Qb3 Rxb4 26.Qxf7 Rf8 27.Qe6 Rf6 28.Qh3 Rxe4 29.Rf3
of course, White has many options & I've been playing poorly of late - so I could be missing a critical idea for White ...the most obvious is 18.f4,
Nd7 18.f4 Bxe2 19.Kxe2 Rfd8 followed by a movement of White getting pieces to the Kingside, example
20.Rdg1 Qxa5 21.f5 Qa6+ 22.Ke1 Bxc3+ 23.Qxc3 Nf6 24.fxg6 hxg6 25.d6 Rxd6 26.Qb3 Qa5+ 27.Kf1 Qa6+ 28.Ke1

Let me know what I'm missing & where I'm going wrong...

Regards,

Don
