The obvious gap in the market is between the rook (almost as useless as a knight or a bishop) and the queen (far too powerful).

So I propose a 'quook'. It can make all the moves that a rook can. And it can also move diagonally, like a bishop/queen; but only a certain number of squares on each move. 3? 4? 5? 6? My team are carrying out extensive tests on this, I'll get back to you when they've made their recommendations.

I think we should be allowed to buy 'power ups' like the ones my daughter uses in the various online games she plays. For those not familiar with this concept, you basically enhance 'something' into a 'super something'. Sometimes by a task within the game, but more often than not by purchasing from the game provider.

It would therefore generate additional income for the site also. Right now I could do with a couple of enhanced Queens, Super Multi Directional Laser Radiating ones to be precise. Normal Queen but concealing a once in the game ability to wipe out anything in its path from the landing square across rank, file and diagonal.

Damn! Can you imagine the look on Norfolk's face

'Have fun' is my message. Be silly. You're allowed to be silly. There's nothing wrong with it.

Like a trifle?

Instead of inventing a new piece,we could just give an existing piece new powers. (Perhaps you can promote a knight to a queen if it gets to the back rank, or give the pawn the ability to move sideways).

"twoface" it starts off on it's first move as a knight then on it's second move a bishop and back and forth - the piece physically can be flipped on it's head on each move and the look of the piece on top indicates it's current move function
