I love anything by Reinfeld. He was the person who taught me how to play chess (through his books, that is).

this is the first book on chess I ever owned. Stduied it a lot when I was about 12 years old and finally beat my dad. He hasn't beaten me since. However, there are easier books to utilize and the openings section isn't up to date any more. I'd recommend the Seirawan books to get a person started. I love this book though

I present my review of the following book:

Complete Chess Player
By Fred Reinfeld, Publisher:Fireside

A bit dated (1953) but relevant. Basics for the beginner. Over seventy pages are devoted to openings and fourty pages are illustrative games with commentary. Other topics briefly treated are tactics, end game, and strategy in the middle game. Writing style is clear. However, more diagrams would improve the book's readability. In my opinion the beginning level book Pandolfini's Ultimate Guide To Chess is much more readable and explainations are better.

Feedback welcome from all

Best wishes
