Control panel look on the play page - underline removal possibility

Hi all

Would anyone mind if the post-it notes with the hyperlinks to the right of them, have the underline removed?!

I think this might make the post it note links look a little tidier

I realise there is a risk when removing underlines, for giving the impression of not being clickable (original HTML standards), but in the case of the "control panel" look where there are clickable icons in any case to the left, can we risk removing the underlines ?!

Feedback welcome from all

I would tend to agree with K on this point in that many users are either unaware of the default setting configuration choices or can't be bothered.

However, IE, FireFox and Opera are configurable to remove the accursed, irritating and frankly pointless underline whilst Chrome remains the odd one out for now. However a trawl through their forums suggests that many users regard the lack of this configurablity as its greated failing at present.

Basically, the visual cue of text in another colour, (univerally defaulted to blue), would be more that sufficent for all users except those with specific vision deficiences.

The problen is that a page with many hyperlinks looks visually offensive, rather like trying to read multiple lines of underlined text - not a partcularly pleasing prospect.

Apollo - a personal comment.

Hi K,

This is available as a browser setting (at least in IE) so maybe it is better to allow those who like hyperlinks underlined to keep that setting. In IE, go to 'Tools'>'Internet Options...'>'Advanced'. Look for 'Undeline links' in the 'Browsing' group and select the option you want. I think it is better to leave this as a local setting for the local system than for a site to over-ride the local preferences set by the user.

Well , the problem is of course that about <1% of the site would know about this or be bothered to change the browser default.

Here is a precdent :

Amazon.com Front page to take a look at.

The hyperlinks in the middle have the classic underline

The links on the right (in the "Bestsellers" div section), which have little graphics to the left of them, have underline only on the "hover" event

This is sort of analogous to the Play page links where we have the post-it note icons

We could actually consider marking the post-it-note icons and links as a seperate "Div" section with a border as well, just to show they share the same hyperlink display properties.

Yes but also perhaps there is a strong argument, that also the post it note icons are clickable in any case - so maybe it is like a "control panel" anyway.
